THE meeting of Callington United Sisterhood was chaired by Vida Pearce.
Happy Thoughts were read by Elsie Trevorrow, Ida Duke, Audrey Horsham, Carrie Duance and Vida Pearce. Prayers were led by Rev Ingleby, he also gave a talk on Jeremiah. The pianist for the meeting was Audrey Horsham.
Change
of venue
A BLOOD donor session, to be held on August 9, is to take place in Delaware community centre, rather than Delaware primary school, which is being refurbished.
The sessions will run from l.30-3.15pm and 5-7.15pm.
Entertainment for
the companions
MEMBERS of Callington Good Companions Club held their monthly meeting at the Town Hall on July 25. Two lady accordionists, Maureen and Mary Hill provided the entertainment for the afternoon, with members enjoying a sing-along, with many old tunes.
Refreshments followed while the Chairman called the raffle. Members were reminded that the Christmas tea will be held on December 13 at 3.30pm until 6pm at the Town Hall.
The next meeting is on August 22 with bingo. New members are always

Elizabeth was
the soloist
CALLINGTON Brotherhood society president Don Mutton presided at the open meeting on Sunday.
David and Elizabeth Nicholls made a welcome return as guest speaker and soloist for the service. Accompanied by Barry Higgins on the organ, Elizabeth's songs included: 'Heaven came down and glory filled my soul' and 'Let there be loved shared among us'.
This theme of God's love for all was taken by David in his gospel message. Russell Deacon gave the bible reading, and prayers were led by Howard Tamblyn.
Opening ceremony
for new church
THE new Methodist Church for the Tamar Valley will be opened on November 17. The building is currently under construction on a site in Albaston Hill and was originally scheduled for completion by the end of July. The adverse weather at the commencement of the operation has meant that the contracting firm is running at around 10 weeks behind schedule.
Members and friends are currently working on an opening programme of events which will stretch over several days of celebration. The opening ceremony and dedication service on November 17 will be by invitation only, due to restrictions to the size of the congregations. Two opening services for anyone will be held the following day.

tennis lessons
HOLIDAY tennis lessons for all ages and abilities start from August 7 onwards at the new South East Cornwall Tennis centre at Callington.
The centre has both outdoor and indoor courts and a highly qualified coach committed to developing tennis in the area. There are also weekly tennis club activities throughout the summer holidays.
Leaflets detailing the summer camps, courses and programmes on offer can be picked up from Callington Sports Centre at Callington Community College, Launceston Road, Callington. A Junior Performance Programme starts in September.
Library Fun
CALLINGTON Library are holding a day of fun filled activities on August 9 from 10am until 12 noon. Activities include face painting, carnival stories and craft activities. The cost is £1 per child.
Throughout the summer holidays children can join our Reading Carnival by writing books reviews and collecting a set of cards to put in a special carnival wallet. Details of these events can be obtained at the Library.
Dancers took
to the floor
TWENTY EIGHT people from the Callington Tea Dance Club took to the floor with other dancers at the Livermead Hotel in Torquay last week.
A stop was made at Paignton for lunch and everyone came home having had a good day out.
The Callington Tea Dance Club meets every other Friday at Callington Town Hall from 2.30pm until 5pm. Music is provided by Albert and Mavis Hurlock from Saltash.
