Teaching

Development

SPRING 2001 marked the first deadline for a new European Initiative, the Schools Development Project, and Callington Community College is among the first schools in the country to gain access to the project. Callington will be working with schools in Holland and Hungary, with a joint aim to improve teaching and learning in each of the schools.

Staff and Students will be visiting the partner institutions, contributing to the learning in each school and also collecting valuable information on how everyone can improve by learning from the good practice in other schools. One of the results should be the development of an interactive web-site where good practice can be sampled via internet access.

Richard Lumley, co-ordinator of the project in Callington, said: 'Cornwall can tend to be isolated from the international scene and this project will be excellent in linking southeast Cornwall with other parts of Europe which are so different and have such varying cultural backgrounds. Students will have the opportunity to experience lifestyles which are different to their own, both by talking with visiting teachers and by being taught by teachers who have visited the partner schools. There will be some students who will be fortunate enough to travel to Holland or Hungary to 'fly the flag' for Callington and Cornwall. This is an opportunity which we cannot wait for.'
