Thanksgiving at

Rotary meeting

AT the Callington Rotary club meeting Pastor Bruce Brown, Club President, welcomed Rotary members and their wives to a replica American Thanksgiving meal at the Mustard Seed Evangelical Church.

Shirley, Bruce's wife, had supervised the preparation of the three course Turkey Extravaganza, and as both Bruce and Shirley are United States citizens, the meal was a unique culinary experience, which had been made possible with the help of friends and other church helpers.

Pastor Bruce then treated the members to a talk entitled 'From Plimoth to Plymouth . . . and back again,' the story of 50 pilgrims who left their homes in England and Holland in 1620 to settle a colony in the New World.

In the Plimoth Plantation in Massachusetts 'Players' re-enact the creation of this settlement, together with the trip over the Atlantic on the Mayflower, and Bruce's talk was illustrated by slides from this regular production in the United States.

The surplus funds from the evening went to Pastor Bruce and Shirley's chosen charity, Multiple Sclerosis.

Snack room plan

due for debate

AN application to replace an unauthorised snack bar at Kit Hill with a permanent tea room/cafe was once again due to be debated by Caradon councillors last night (Thursday).

A plan for replacing the existing tea rooms was submitted earlier this year and granted permission in July, against officer recommendation. However, the building granted permission is too small for the business and an amended application has been put forward to include an extension to the side of the building to increase the amount of storage area.

In their report, officers said the scheme represents a relatively small increase to the floorspace of the approved building and would not lead to the cafe having a greater impact upon the location.

The plan was submitted by D J Skilling, and was due to be debated by Caradon's planning control committee (east).
