Funds for Heartswell
A toal of £90.20 was raised by Gwen and Louise James for Heartswell South West, who sold cakes at the recent Art and Craft fair in Callington Town Hall. They would like to thank all those who supported them.
Parish promotion of a Trust
Calstcok Development Trust, the first such Trust in Cornwall, is currently in the middle of a parish-wide promotion.
Trust members are showing a series of presentations to local groups, and displaying the organisation's works and aims at various venues - this intended to show residents how the Trust can benefit them, and how they can become involved to help improve their own area.
The next public presentation is on May 4 at Delaware primary school at 7.30pm, with all welcome to attend, meet Trustees, listen to the presentation which has been designed by the students of Callington community college, and take part in an informal discussion.
Patrons of the Trust, which is funded by the Lottery, South West Regional Development Agency and LEADER 11, are Sir Robert Hicks and Edward Woodward.
Musical success
Taelnted youngsters learning with music teacher Katherine Reeves in Callington have enjoyed success in their examinations this term.
Passing their Trinity College of Music exams with merit were: Katie Harding, Grade 1 violin, Gillian Leaning, Grade 2 singing and Naomi Kibble, Grade 3 violin. Guildhall School of Music and Drama exams were passed by Oonagh Benson, Grade 2 piano (merit), Alice Humphries, Grade 3 piano (merit) and Gareth Hussey, Grade 3 piano. Pupils sitting the 'Fanfare' assessment were Morwenna Boyle, introductory piano, (merit) and Lucy Humphries, Grade 2 singing (merit).
Congratulations should also go to Annabel Reeves who is a pupil of Tracey Scott, and who passed her Grade 8 clarinet with distinction.
Warden wanted
A lollipop person is needed for Callington primary school. Irene Lee, who has seen children safely across New Road for the last five years, has left to take up another job.
Cornwall Road Safety unit needs someone willing to work five and a half hours a week at the New Road crossing.
The pay is £4.63 per hour. Anyone interested should contact Heather Stripp on 01872 327886.
Easter stories
At the Callington United Sisterhood meeting the chair was taken by Mrs Vida Pearce.
Happy thoughts were read by Mrs Margaret Brough and Mrs Elsie Trevorrow on Easter Stories. Mrs Duke and Mrs Vida Pearce told of Amazing Stories.
The guest speaker was Pastor Bruce Brown, who spoke on Birthdays and the pianist was Miss Rena Wooldridge. Tea and biscuits were served by Mrs Winnie Bunkum and Mrs Jean Burnard.
Cats' league open meeting
Callington Cats Protection League are holding an open meeting at Callington Prim Raf on Thursday May 4 at 7.30pm. The meeting is for members and the public to forward any fresh fundraising ideas and to volunteer an hour of their time to help raise funds for the cats in care.
