Crack down on young drinkers
Callington town centre is being targeted by East Cornwall police in a crack-down on under-age drinking.
Sgt Steve Torr said the police have launched a high profile initiative to tackle the drinking and associated problems. The police can act under the confiscation of alcohol legislation to take drink off youngsters - and licensees are also involved in the bid to stop those under 18 getting hold of drink, either by buying it themselves or getting older people to buy it for them.

Walk through the daffodils
The first 'stroll through the daffodils' in 1996 was to be a one off exercise in the Tamar Valley that would allow bona fide groups and organisations to raise money, through sponsorship for their own coffers or good causes.
It proved so popular that the organisers are gearing up to welcome and marshal the 300 or more participants, as groups or individuals, along the footpaths of the Valley on Saturday March 18.
It is recommended that walkers should wear comfortable but stout footwear. They can choose to undertake either the five or 10 mile routes, but in both cases there is no time limit and no prize for the first home.
The routes will start and finish at Harrowbarrow village hall with the official registration time at 10am to 10.30am and the Lions will provide refreshments before and after, together with marshalling and managing 'drinks stations' on route.
All interested parties can obtain more information and sponsor forms from Callington Lions or Callington Town Hall. Everyone is welcome to join on payment of £1 (50p for under 16s), and if not affiliated to an organisation, may choose to walk on behalf of Lions' charities
