Committee re-elected
Rev Howard Burnow presided over the annual meeting of Callington United Sisterhood, where committee members were re-elected.
Reports were given by secretaries Margaret Brough and Mrs Barrie Duance and treasurer Audrey Horsham. At the close of the meeting tea was served by Barbara Paynter.
At the next meeting the following week Mrs Hilda Pearce presided.
The guest speaker was Joan Lean of Plymouth who spoke of old fashioned advertisements. Happy thoughts were read by Mrs Brough, Mrs Paynter, Mrs Duke and Mrs Pearce. Pianist was Mrs Duance and tea and biscuits were served by Edie Pridham and Jean Burnard.
Memories at Rotary Club
Callington Rotary Club senior president Pastor Bruce Brown presided over the meeting at the Bulls Head Pub in Callington on Wednesday, November 24 when the guest speaker was well known local resident Mr E. W. Green.
Mr Green, former physics teacher, recounted his time in the teaching profession with many amusing anecdotes and bought along old photographs to relive memories of fifty years of the then Callington Grammar School in Saltash Road, when he was deputy head. Past president, Graham Hindle proposed the vote of thanks for a very interesting evening.
Tea for fund
The residents of Hillsborough residential home at Callington enjoyed a seasonal mince pie and cream tea organised by Marie Danvers and her staff to raise funds for the National Kidney Research Fund.
Family and friends of the residents, and the home, also joined in the festivities. Phil Paynter, charity's area manager, was able to announce the event had raised £239.84.
Evening of praise
The Methodist Guild meeting was held at Callington Methodist church. Miss Rosalind Bunkum was present with members of her family and gave an enjoyable evening of praise, singing and playing instruments. Rosalind and her family were thanked by Mrs E. Hope.
Mrs Wilkins and Mrs Pearce served tea and biscuits at the end of the meeting.
The next meeting will be a devotional meeting led by Miss Valerie Honey.
