Disbanded after 30 years
The Callington branch of the Arthritis Research Campaign has had to disband.
The decision was taken at the branch's annual meeting. Members had previously been told by treasurer, Philip Palmer that he had been able to hand a cheque for £3,600 to headquarters.
When it came to re-electing a committee, however, it proved impossible as chairman, Jean Badcock, is moving, and secretary Margaret Grocott and Mr Palmer, had to resign on health grounds. As they were unable to find anyone to take over the positions, the committee was forced to declare the branch disbanded. The branch was started in 1967 with Winifred Burleigh being voted in as president, a post she had continued to hold.
The committee has extended thanks all those in Callington and the surrounding area who have helped them raise money towards research into arthritis and for the training of doctors and professors in rheumatology.
Fireworks at the Community School
The Ginsters' annual firework display is being held this year at Callington Community School tomorrow, Saturday, November 6.
The event is still being sponsored by Ginsters, although the organisation of the evening has been taken over by Callington Town Council
Admission is free and the attractions will include kiddies' rides, refreshments, charity stalls etc. It is hoped that the charities present will boost their funds if attendance is high. Many charities have benefited in previous years.
Stalls will open at 5.30pm and the fireworks display will begin at 7pm.
