WI hall sold

The Womens' Institute Hall in Haye Road, Callington has been sold at last, closing a chapter in the history of the WI in the town. which has spanned many years and many events.

The hall has also been used by many other groups, including Weight Watchers, Age Concern, the Old Cornwall Society and many others.

The WI reluctantly decided to sell the hall because of the mounting cost of keeping it repaired. The committee found they were raising funds purely to keep trhe buidling in the same condition without even the improvements they would liketo have made.

Future meetings ofCallington W I will be held at the Council Chambers in the town hall, usually on the second Wednesday of each month, but due to the short notice of moving some dates have been arranged to fit in.

Prospective new members are always welcome and are invited to try their hand at Malaysian cooking on Wednesday, November 10. The Christmas party is on Tuesday, December 7. There will be no meeting in January but on Wednesay, February 9 John Mann is giving a talk on hislife as a vet.

The WI would like to thank everyone who has supported them in the past and looks forward to its future in the town hall.

If anyone would like to go along to the meetings mentioned and would prefer to be collected and come with a member telephone either the president Pauline Kennedy 382729, the secretary Meg Bassett 383731 or Diane Hobbns on 384828. They will arrange for a member who lives locally to accompany a new member.

Callington town council has taken over organisation of the evening this year, although the event is still sponsored by Ginsters. The display this year will be held at Callington community college in Launceston Road.

Admission to the event is free and attractions will include children's rides, refreshments and charity stalls. The stalls will open at 5.30pm and the fireworks display will commence at 7pm.
