DIVISION ONE WEST Goonhavern 0 Callington Town 3 IT has taken eight games, but Town's youngsters finally have the league win that they have deserved for their unstinting efforts since the summer upheavals within Callington Town Football Club. The victory was doubly important as Goonhavern replace Callington at the bottom of the table. 'This win has been coming,' said the delighted Town boss. 'The team has been improving match by match and has finally got its rewards and I'm so pleased for them.' For once, Town had the bonus of an early lead as Lee Crooks raced down the right wing before cutting in to find the advancing Chris Holt, who cleverly beat the goalkeeper from the edge of the area after only 12 seconds. Buoyed by their great start, Town's youngsters visibly grew in stature and went on to dominate the game virtually from start to finish. The lead was doubled on 33 minutes as Dan Alderton created the chance with a fine piece of play by the corner flag. His cross into the danger area found Crooks, who had found the space required to allow him to fire past home goalkeeper John Mitchell. Their second-half dominance only brought them one further goal, although Pete Floyd – back after four weeks – had two good chances saved by Mitchell. Only eight minutes remained when good work by Crooks found Mark Channing firing in a fierce shot that Mitchell could only watch fly into the net. 'Hopefully the squad can see what it is capable of now and use this win as a springboard for the rest of the season,' concluded a clearly satisfied Hunt.
