MEMBERS of the public are being urged to show their support for Torpoint's quest to reinstate 24-hour ambulance cover in the area. The town has been without the around-the-clock service for two years. However, wide-spread support from Torpoint residents for an increase to the existing service has lead to the meeting. Mike Willis, chief executive of the Westcountry Ambulance Service, South East Cornwall MP Colin Breed and chief executive of the North East Primary Care, Ian Williams, will all be in attendance. The meeting will take place at the Torpoint Town Hall from 10.15am, and will see the presentation of a petition containing thousands of signatures from people supporting Torpoint's quest for an increased ambulance service. The town is currently being served by a first response vehicle but are left without any cover between 2am and 6am from April. All those who would support plans to introduce 24-hour cover to the town and surrounding area is asked to attend the meeting.
