Urgent action on speeding has been called for after two pet cats were killed on a country lane.
The accidents happened on the road past the Tamar Valley Donkey Park at St Ann’s Chapel, near Gunnislake.
The pets belonged to Tamsin Coggon. Tamsin’s father is David Gibbons and the family runs the Donkey Park.
David said: ‘The road past the park should be 30, not derestricted. Just spend 20 minutes during the day in our service gate and you will see the number of local residents and dogs walking up and down. The speed of cars up and down will also shock you.’
Speeding in the wider area has long been a concern of residents, who held a meeting at the Rifle Volunteer pub about the issue.
Mr Gibbons has been writing to local Cornwall Councillors Jim Flashman and Dorothy Kirk, and contacted them again following the death of the pet cats.
Mr Flashman told the Cornish Times: ‘There is actually a 40mph speed limit on all the lanes in the area, but very few cars stick to it. It’s horrendous.
‘I’’ve been trying to do something about this for some time and I am now going to chase the divisional surveyor again to come up here.
‘Even a warning sign about children and elderly people mighty slow traffic down around the area.
‘The council has resources it is keeping for road improvements and it’s about time it spent some of it here.’
