A WOMAN who survived breast cancer is doing a solo lockdown headshave to raise funds and awareness.

Sue Pell, 64, says she feels blessed to have lived to see her grandchildren born and growing up.

It was just before her 50th birthday that Sue, who lives in Callington, received the devastating news she had breast cancer.

But she says she was given ’the gold standard treatment’ and has now had 15 years in remission.

Sue wants to remind everyone that ’C’ is for cancer as well as coronavirus.

’I know the virus is critical at the moment -but we will get to a point where it can be controlled,’ she said.

’At the end of the lockdown, cancer will still be there. People every day will have their lives devastated by being told they have breast cancer. So I want to help raise funds to get screening done earlier and/or more frequently, so no one has to go through what I did 15 years ago.’

Sue began a Facebook fundraiser before the virus threw everyday life into chaos.

’To raise money for Breast Cancer I had planned to shave my hair,’ she explained.

’But due to the isolation we are in now, I cannot go ahead with my fundraising event at my workplace Play Planet in Tavistock.’

With the prospect of no raffle, and no cupcakes on sale, Sue felt she was unlikely to reach her target of £500.

But she decided rather that wait until the end of the lockdown, she would record her headshave at home instead.

’I am going to go ahead with it on the planned date which is tomorrow, 29th April,’ she said.

’I live alone so it will mean I have to shave my hair myself!
