Over the last weekend we saw good results from both new and old members of East Cornwall Harriers. On Friday evening the Albaston Relay took place, and ECH won the mixed team category. Two of our newer members, John and Hilda McKinley, helped make up the team for the 6 leg relay between public houses around Albaston. The other four members were Mark Andrews, Len White, Amanda Erith and Trevor Ford.

Saturday saw Len White and Nick Stone running the Burrator Horseshoe at Meavy, this is a scenic race over Dartmoor taking runners over two tors. Then in the evening Len White went on to join other members taking part in the Hope 5 mile run at St. Dominick.

The Plymouth Race for Life took place on Sunday morning, there was a new venue and a new course for this 5K race. Over 2000 ladies turned up to run this event, raising money for the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Two of our newest members took part, and the star performance came from Pandora Stone. She is only just 16 and took up running earlier this year. Despite the vey hot weather she ran herself into 2nd place before reaching the 2K mark and maintained a decisive lead over the third lady. The winner of the event was Plymouth Harrier Claire Davidson in 18.56. Pandora finished in exactly 20 minutes. Our other representative was Hilda McKinley, who has progressed from the jogging group which started at Christmas, and finished her second race of the weekend in 26.59.

On the same day the South West Veterans Track and Field Championships took place at Exeter Arena. Mike Erith took part in the 800m and 1500m and finished 2nd in his age group 050 for both events, in 2.19 and 4.52 respectively. Jacky Tyler took part in the 5000m, her first even track event and finished in a new championship record, for he rage group 040, of 20.20.

Further a field ECH members Ron and Doreen Paine braved the heatwave to take part in The Potteries Marathon. The event was won by Shaun Milford from Newquay Road Runners, in a time of 2.41.48. Ron finished in 4.29 and Doreen was happy to get back in 4.48. Everybody suffered from the extreme heat on this hilly course.
