A businesswoman who ‘braved the shave’ in memory of her niece has raised more than £2000 so far.
Janine Doidge, owner of Genuine Beauty in Saltash, travelled to Gosport to be with members of her family for the event to raise money for Macmillan in memory of her niece, Jodie.
Jodie’s cousins organised the day with face-painting, a cake sale, tombola, raffle, bouncy castle, and local bands.
The occasion was well-supported with £2041 being raised on the day, and Janine has estimated that the final figure will be between £6,000 to £7000.
Jodie was first diagnosed with breast and liver cancer at the beginning of last year but following major surgery, chemo and radiotherapy she was given the all clear. However, a short time later the cancer had returned, spreading to her lung and spine.
This year on June 23 she married her partner of ten years, Russ, but sadly lost her brave battle at the age of 35 on July 14.
Janine would like to thank all those who made the charity day possible and everyone who supported her in the head shave. She said: ‘It was a day of very mixed emotions for everyone, especially watching the grand finale of “Brave the Shave”.
‘Jodie was full of life and a total inspiration to everyone who knew her. There are no words. We have our beautiful abundance of memories that will live in our hearts forever. Jodie would be so proud of us all.’
