An unusual partnership between a rural pub and luxury castle has brought broadband to a new conference centre.

Pentillie Castle, near St Mellion, has partnered with the Who’d Have Thought It pub in St Dominic to have broadband beamed across the Tamar Valley to its new corporate space.

The unusual partnership came about when owners of the castle were preparing to launch a new  space  in the castle for business conferences.

The Coryton family  were struggling to get high quality broadband into their new luxury conference and meetings space, when they hit upon an innovative idea.

’We  were one of the 5% in Cornwall unlikely to get superfast broadband,’ said Ted Coryton.

’We were looking across the valley, and realised that we could see the Who’d Have Thought It pub at  St Dominic  from the Castle.

’They are next to a fibre box, and so we contacted them to explore the idea of beaming their broadband across the valley. The team at  St Austell Brewery  leapt at the opportunity to help the castle and local businesses.

’The broadband  speed leapt from  just under  2Mbps on a  good day , to a steady 65Mbps.’
