A MINING area at Kelly Bray could contain twice as much high-grade tin and tungsten as originally thought, says the company which hopes to reintroduce mining in East Cornwall.
New Age Exploration says it has confidence in the potential for the Redmoor area to support a new underground mine.
The company has released an update on what it has discovered during exploratory drilling in 2017 – and what its next steps will be.
A further drilling programme is planned, to begin in the middle of this year.
Managing director Gary Fietz said: ‘This is a major milestone on the path to rebuilding a working mine in the Redmoor area. Today’s announcement demonstrates the potential for the Redmoor project to host sufficient high-grade tungsten, tin and copper mineralization to support an underground mining project.’
The quality of tin and tungsten at Redmoor is ‘world class’, said Mr Fietz.
An underground mine could create at least 200 jobs and bring wider economic benefits, he said.
New Age Exploration is working together with another company at Kelly Bray, Strategic Minerals, on a jointly-owned venture, Cornwall Resources Limited (CRL).
