A YOUNG group of budding engineers have qualified for a place in a national competition and will travel to Goodwood to take part in the finals. The Kit Hill Young Engineers Club, from Callington Community College, have taken part in a series of races throughout the year and are gearing up for the finals on Sunday. Greenpower, who have organised the event, run a number of races designed for electric cars and hold heats all over the country. The team of Callington students will be showcasing their design and engineering expertise when their car takes to the track, hoping to win Formula 24 – a four hour endurance race. They are hoping to beat their season's best, which they got at the Dorset heat, completing 326 laps and coming third place. The emphasis on this gruelling race will not be just on the drivers, but also on the team who have to work out a careful pit stop strategy to ensure battery power is efficiently used. The commentary on the day will be provided by Formula One commentator Bob Constanduros.
