A LIMITED field of 37 players took part in the St Mellion Fossils' weekly Stableford competition, together with eight others who were competing in the Winter Greensomes.

Although the fairways were wet in places, the greens were in excellent condition and all 18 were available for play.

Bruce Sobey topped the Gold Division, while Roger Wratten claimed the Silver prize and Don Bennett, the bronze.

David Brockbank and Tony Hurley, along with Charles White and Alan Lyme, progressed to the next round of the Winter Greensomes.

The previous week saw the club hold their annual 'Turkey Trot' competition, which attracted a field of more than 100 members to the Kernow Course.

The day started with new club captain Jon Behennah driving in his year of office with a 229-yard strike into the prevailing wind.

The overall winners were new lady captain Geraldine Howley (handicap 19) and her husband Bernard (11).
