A campaign to bring a cinema and bowling alley to Liskeard is set to be revived. Katrina Dawe, who works in the Taste Cornwall shop in the town, co-ordinated a push for the facility about four years ago. Now she says the town is 'desperately in need of revival' and plans to restart the campaign.

'I know people will read this and think she's done all this before and it still hasn't been achieved,' she said.

'I worked very hard on the campaign for two years. There was lots of political interest but after the elections, that died down. This is about the people of Liskeard and if they all pull together for the good of the town, it can be achieved.'

Mother-of-two Katrina got the original idea for the campaign after a personal trauma.

She said: 'I wanted to take the children's mind off things but there was nowhere to go.'

From a letter to the Cornish Times the campaign was born and led to Katrina receiving more than 100 letters of support in the first week. Four years on, she believes the desire still exists for an entertainment complex in the town.

'At the time of the campaign I was asking youngsters if they wanted a cinema and bowling alley and they all said they did,' she said. 'It's something that will benefit young and old. It's the solution to ending what feels like a town desperately in need of revival.'

Katrina has identified a few possible sites for the complex, which she hopes would be similar to the successful Wharf centre in Tavistock.

She said: 'I'm not doing this to make a name for myself. I'm just a local mum doing something for my kids. If we respect the young people, maybe they'll respect the town they live in.'
