The £20m six-year refurbishment of the Royal Albert Bridge over the River Tamar at Saltash has been shortlisted for the 2016 Civil Engineering Awards. The bridge, the work of of the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, opened in 1859 and is still the only mainline rail link into Cornwall. The winners will be announced on July 9.
