CHAIRMAN of the Looe and Polperro Chamber of Commerce, Edwina Arkell, is appealing to as many members as possible to attend the monthly meeting, to be held at the Hannafore Point Hotel on January 9, at 7.30pm.
It is to take the form of a 'brainstorming' session to come up with ideas to attract Objective One money to the area. Mrs Arkell, who has herself a comprehensive list of what she terms as 'potential projects', says the idea is to formulate some positive ideas to attract investment for the two areas and their districts, which can either be acted upon by the Chamber itself, or by the appropriate bodies.
'It is so important for the future prosperity of everyone within our district that we take maximum advantage of everything that Objective One can offer us' she said.
Mrs Arkell also believes that the town should have, or could still, hold a public meeting, as it did when the Civic Trust was formed to make a future plan for Looe.
Among a myriad of ideas up for discussion include the provision of affordable housing to help keep the young people in Looe, the encouragement of schemes to discourage cars and pollution which could include a flexible park and ride offering various modes of river transport, a marketing campaign to promote South East Cornwall as an all year round holiday destination, adding value to local fish and produce by self packaging and marketing, the development of a 'Looe' brand name, development of small flexible workshops and storage area on Polean which are attractive and flexible, a welcome to Looe pack to include shopping /services guide that is reviewed and updated annually.
