A charity day on behalf of the British Heart Foundation was held at Liskeard Bowling Club on Sunday last. Presidents past and present, namely George Libby, Norman Stephens, Sylvia Isbell and Joyce Dingle (supported by other key members) were responsible for the arrangements and smooth running of the fund-raising on the day.

The proceedings commenced with a 'spider' and a raffle, which started the fund-raising. A Bowls Drive was enjoyed by all, with Henry Gutsell and Joan Vowler coming away as the winners. Approximately 60 bowlers and guests sat down to an excellent meal, largely provided by the Presidents with sumptuous sweets made by the ladies. A charge was made for the meal to swell the Charity funds.

Items donated by bowlers were auctioned in a very humorous and persuasive way by Des Vowlers. This gave John Whetter, the treasurer, a hectic time extracting money from members for the many items sold.

The club is grateful for donations from some members who were unable to be presented. The Club President, George Libby, proudly presented a cheque of £750 to Mr Norman Beaver, President of the Liskeard Branch of the British Heart Foundation, who explained how money raised in this way was utilised by the Charity.
