TWO town councils will have to wait to see if their bids to control public drinking of alcohol have been successful. The delay in putting the new rules in place has been described as 'extremely unfortunate' by Looe's mayor, Ron Overd. A decision on alcohol restrictions in Looe and Liskeard had been expected this week. However, Caradon District Council officials told the full council meeting on Wednesday that it had yet to consult the towns' licence holders and public which under legislation guidelines have to be done. Mr Overd said he and his colleagues on Looe Town Council had been expecting the new controls on outdoor drinking to be in place by Easter. 'It would appear that Caradon District Council is at fault because it has not consulted local licensees or advertised the plans in the press. It is disappointing because we were hoping to bring this in before Easter so that we would be able to use the new rules through the peak holiday period. It looks as though we will have to wait but we are happy to continue to work with the police and Caradon.' Similar views were expressed in Liskeard: 'It is disappointing but nothing about Caradon District Council surprises me,' said town councillor David Rowe. Liskeard and Looe had applied for their respective alcohol zones in September and October of last year. A decision on the alcohol restrictions is now expected in April.
