New employment opportunities for Saltash will be unveiled next week, with the opening of a new terrace of seven units on Saltash Business Park at the Moorlands Trading estate.
This is a latest development by Caradon council in its drive to satisfy the need for self-contained workshop units.
A total of £1.25 million has now been spent on establishing new job opportunities in Saltash, with £750,000 coming from Caradon and £500,000 from the EU.
The money has led to the establishment of 27 work units where businesses ranging from a boot and shoe manufacturer to a road sign maker, and from a sports motif embroidery firm to a courier service, are now flourishing.
Future
With the development at Saltash Business Park now full, however, Caradon says it may now be necessary to find a new site in the town which meets future needs.
Eric Lewis, leader of Caradon and a Saltash councillor, said: 'The economy of South East Cornwall depends very much on small firms, and 93 per cent of businesses in the area employ ten people or less. Plans to assist them by providing premises at a reasonable cost, together with advice and help, have proved their worth. The future looks bright, and we are anxious to build on the early achievements at Torpoint, Liskeard and Saltash.'
The new Saltash units will be jointly opened on Monday April ll by the MP of South East Cornwall, Colin Breed, chairman of Caradon Godfrey Smale and Saltash mayor Mona Tomaszewska. The units incorporate the space to insert a mezzanine floor at a later date, which will almost double the working space if expansion is necessary.
