After last week's appalling display, Saints came good against their old adversaries St Stephens Borough. With both squads depleted by injuries, suspensions and other commitments, St Cleer once again lined up in an unfamiliar guise, but settled quickly, overcoming both the now obligatory gusting wind at the Sports Field plus Borough, determined to take the game to the home team.

Gradually taking command in the first half with a firm foundation at the back, 'biting' in midfield, and pace up front, Saints pressed their opponents back, and after several near misses, gained the lead when Julian Reynolds beat the offside trap. They then failed to extend their lead when Kevin Taylor ran through to chip the advancing keeper only for the ball to hold in the wind and 'die' just inches short of the goal. Shortly afterwards the visitors were awarded a penalty which was put away with aplomb by Phil Bennett.

It did not take long for Saints to regain the lead, although the build up to it took '121 years' with a pass out of defence by Alan Bolitho, for Chris Dunne to run onto beating the defence and crossing the ball into the path of the oncoming Reynolds to score. Saints increased their lead shortly afterwards when another through ball saw Darren Harvey, who had been troubling Borough's defence all afternoon with his speed, beat the defence and find the bottom corner.

The second half saw the anticipated onslaught from the visitors, which Saints soaked up, giving Jimmy Duffey in the home goal little to do although their pace up front was curtailed shortly in to the half when Harvey limp out of the game. St Cleer battled hard to hold onto their lead but held out to gain a valuable three points. A good performance all round with players gaining a lot of credit for the way in which they battled, encouraged and worked hard for each other.
