Martin Polatch produced a man of the match display in his last game of the season before he flies off to Australia for a lengthy break. Not only did he score a hat-trick but he was instrumental in scoring a couple of the others.
The game started with the visitors, who had the gale-force wind at their backs, causing the home defence severe problems with continuous through-balls from deep in their own half for Neil Horsley and Andy Snowden to chase. The latter opened the scoring after 10 minutes, which stunned the Premier big boys into another gear. Despite creating chances, Dobwalls were not level until the half-hour point when Simon Fisher fired home. Just before the break, a teasing cross was headed home by Martin Polatch to give his side the lead at the break.
In the second half, after a constructive half-time talk, the home side came out in a better frame on mind and pushed St Dominic back. Simon Fisher made it three with another left foot drive and Polatch added to the score with another superb header. The home side were now knocking the ball around for fun and Andros Andreas made it five. Just before the end, Jeremy Rendle latched onto a ball across the box from Polatch to volley home. Polatch was again the provider in injury time for Rob Cole to head home number seven. Deep into time-added-on, Polatch completed his hat-trick to end the proceedings.
St Dominic deserve credit for battling on for the full 90 minutes despite being out-gunned. Their keeper made several outstanding saves. After a shaky start Dobwalls got their act together to keep their title hopes on track. Frankie Burchell made his debut and, despite lack of match practise, soon got into the action and his experience could be invaluable in the season's run-in. A number of players excelled. Jeremy Rendle shone after a sticky start and goalkeeper Karl Roberts was alert to a number of potential problems, racing off his line to clear the danger on several occasions.
Martin Polatch will be sorely missed for his consistent week-in, week-out performances. Manager John Dunn will be looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline at the end of the month for reinstatement of senior players having fallen foul of the rules last season which could have cost the club dearly.
