In a close match, First Division Mevagissey scraped through against St Cleer, thanks to a disputed penalty against the run of play. In continuous rain, both teams battled well on a pitch becoming a quagmire minute by minute, and even in the difficult conditions some good football prevailed, during a match played in a good spirit by both sides.

The first half saw plenty of end to end play, with both teams coming close, firstly with the visitors showing well, then Saints taking over and proving themselves against higher league placed opposition With good saves being made by both keepers, Saints had their chances before Mevagissey piled on the pressure in the last ten minutes of the half which saw two goal line clearances by the home side before a corner on the right found the far top left hand corner to send the visitors in front at the break-

Re-appearing the second half Saints came out with real belief and dominated for large periods without getting the final rub of the green, reducing the visitors to breakaways, from which they went further in front when an attacker slipped in the area and was deemed to have been fouled, with the spot kick duly converted. This only acted as a further spur to the home side who relentlessly pressurised the visitors defence, and from one such attack a cross cum shot from Johnny Andrew found its way into the bottom comer, to set up a great finale over the last 15 minutes.

But despite some good football and plenty of spirit Saints failed to find the net again, and so went out of this year's KO cup. Over the two matches St Cleer gained a lot of respect and proved that they can prove a match for anyone.
