Despite fielding a below strength side, Polperro were confident of a result against lowly Altarnun and took the game to them from the start.
Ryan Tedder, making a welcome return after injury, linked well with Aaron Spry on the right flank and Spry fired across a number of good crosses in the opening minutes all to no avail.
Altarnun took the lead after 20 minutes with a break against the run of play when Polperro's advancing defence lost control of the ball. Going a goal down shocked Polperro but they were positively stunned 10 minutes later when the home side headed home a second. The arrears were reduced shortly before the break when an Altarnun defender knocked a classic back-pass beyond his 'keeper's reach.
Polperro looked completely out of sorts in the second half but Altarnun threw them a lifeline by way of a second own goal, this time perfectly headed in. Boosted by this good turn of fortune Matthew Barton, Jason Richardson and Tedder began to pressure the Altarnun defence by running onto through balls but they couldn't get on the scoresheet.
With the match looking destined for a draw, sloppy defending of a corner let Altarnun in to secure their first points of the season. The match was well handled by Saltash referee John Griffin who endeavoured to keep the game flowing and played the advantage whenever possible.
