FAST and silent is the new approach from Liskeard police, who have taken to pedal power in their fight against crime.
Officers say pedalling around the streets of the town has had a positive effect.
One example is that they have already doubled the number of motorists they have caught committing driving offences.
A spokesperson from Liskeard police station said people are not used to seeing a police officer on a bike these days, so it is easy to surprise offenders.
'It is an alternative method of getting around which works well,' he said.
'It also means we are quieter when answering a call, as opposed to turning up in a police vehicle. It can give us a fast and silent approach with an element of surprise.
'The public have welcomed seeing us around the town on bikes , and it also gives them a chance to stop us if they want to talk about their concerns.'
There are four bicycles at the police station which are used day and night.
