A 15-year-old from Torpoint has spent a week finding out about boat maintenance during work experience with Flagship Training Ltd at HMS Raleigh's Sea Sense training centre. During a packed programme, James Dolman was given the opportunity to experience a range of tasks carried out by the Flagship team to maintain the Royal Navy's rigid inflatable boats and other small craft. As well as trying his hand at carpentry skills, James was shown how to carry out a full engine service, and also had the chance to do a spot of welding, under supervision. James is hoping to follow in his father Lee's footsteps and join the Royal Navy. Lee, a chief petty officer, is currently serving at HMS Raleigh within the Royal Navy recruit school. James is considering a career as an air engineering officer, and believes that his week's work experience will be beneficial in the long-term. He said: 'The week here has been fantastic and definitely worthwhile. 'If I ever have to do something like this in the future, at least I will have some idea what to do. Waking up in the morning knowing I was coming here has been the best bit.'
