Torpoint Athletic 0 Liskeard Athletic 6

Torpoint found themselves cast as whipping boys at The Mill as Liskeard finally banished the frustrations of their goal-drought with a six-goal display. There is a very youthful look about the Tamarsiders these days and they found there is no real substitute for experience against a Blues outfit that always had too much for their opponents. Venerable striker Lee Harvey was the first Liskeard striker to find the net, turning on a Paul Baker header to volley home in the sixth minute. Torpoint did have the occasional moment in a largely one-sided first half, but only when the Blues defence lost concentration and a second goal eventually came in the 40th minute, Matt Cusack finishing from 12 yards after a good run and pass from Sam Matthews. The second half saw Liskeard demonstrate why they are title challengers. After Paul Baker had netted a 48th minute penalty after a foul on Matt Cusack, the Blues controlled the game for large periods. Three more goals followed, Jamie Morrison-Hill's 69th minute shot, substitute Mat Penry's great 78th minute strike and Matt Cusack's second goal of the game in the 86th minute as Torpoint truly got a bad case of the Blues. 'We played and won with a lot of purpose today. 'We set ourselves standards in this club and we have dropped a little of late, but I was delighted with what I got from the whole team today – it was exactly the response I wanted,' said Blues boss Dave Leonard. 'We are a very young side who played a very good side today, but the commitment and work rate of the entire squad is excellent and that's a good base to start from and I'm sure the players will benefit from playing sides like this in the long run,' said Torpoint manager Mark Jones.
