CSWPL PREMIER DIVISION Liskeard 2 Bodmin 2 THERE are times you do not get what you deserve from a game, and, as in this particular encounter, times you get more than you might think you deserve. Despite being second best for large periods of this game, Bodmin's knack of defending as badly at vital times as the Blues ensured the points were shared at Lux Park. 'We tread a bit of a thin line defensively at times, and especially towards the end of this game,' admitted Liskeard assistant-manager Paul Goodwin. Bodmin were dominant at the start, but after 23 minutes, all they had to show was a one-goal deficit, home captain Dominic Richardson looping a header home from a Ben Wood cross. Left-winger Wood was to be the one shining light in the Blues' performance, the youngster terrorising Town captain Darren Gilbert and his right-flank cohorts all afternoon. Eventually, all the Bodmin pressure had to pay off, though it needed some help to do so. The home defence, for the umpteenth time, left Danny O'Hagan unmarked, and a minute before half-time the burly striker duly buried a free header. Not to be outdone, however, the Town defence set out to prove that they could be just as inept and did so in the 54th minute when Richardson glanced home James Alexander's free-kick with total ease to restore the home lead. Visibly riled, Bodmin drove forward and were rewarded 11 minutes from time when a pitiful attempt at a tackle by Nick Skinner gave Nick Campbell a second chance, which he gratefully accepted to drive the ball across Blues' goalkeeper Grant Fisher into the net. Liskeard could even have actually gone onto win a game they really had no right to, but experienced Town goalkeeper Kevin Miller did well to keep out a late dipping Lee Bradd volley, while only a brilliant Shaun Manley block kept Chris Wright from scoring. Goodwin was right, however, to brush some of his side's defensive shortcomings under the proverbial carpet and highlight some positives. 'We kept battling right through the game and showed a lot of character when Bodmin drew level near the end. 'Now we need to build on this performance for when we meet St Blazey next week – that will be another acid test,' mused Goodwin.
