Went into my favourite wood on Saturday, Kilminorth. I was in for a surprise, the powers that be have bulldozed another road through, just above Polean to the swinging tree.
What is going on, aren't these woods supposed to be a nature reserve, or are they a logging camp?
Lovely oaks, about 60 years old, which is young for an oak, just cut to make a road for tractors etc. I have been checking where the chainsaw men were cutting two years ago, above the sewage farm. Through cutting every tree down in one area we have lost a beautiful bluebell glade and all we have got in its place is a mass of brambles, simply because they destroyed the canopy and let too much sun in, and hastened the growth of brambles.
I noticed in the private woods, old Squire Trelawny's that is, that the old oaks and beech are twelve feet apart, coppice one and leave one, that is the way you retain a canopy which is good for all the animals and birds in the woods, and our lovely bluebells and song thrushes are making a come-back in these woods. Please do not cut any more holly trees down, they are a favourite nesting area.
Is this road and tree felling being paid by community charge payers and if so, does anything go back to Caradon's coffers? With millions of logs gone out of Kilminorth someone is making a profit.
I hope it is Caradon district council.
