Newly-released figures show the Cornwall Blood Bikes charity’s trained volunteers rode 2,143 missions in 2016.

They covered 90,912 miles, 99% of that in Cornwall, transporting essential medical supplies between hospitals, pharmacies and hospices.

The charity’s work is thought to have saved the NHS between £150,000 and £180,000 in courier and taxi transport costs.
