ST George's Day Centre, Saltash has celebrated it's fourth birthday. To mark the occasion, a lunch was held at the Nova Hotel, Plymouth for all the members on Wednesday, April 6. More than 70 house-bound and disabled members were taken by coaches to the lunch where they were welcomed by Karen Hibberd, the organiser and manager of the centre, and Shirley Fedrick, joint organiser and finance director. Special guests were Mayor of Saltash, Mrs Sue Hooper, and MP Colin Breed and the Reverend Jeff Howden, of Saltash Baptist Church Minister. The tables were decorated with red and white balloons and flower arrangements and, after the two-course meal, a birthday cake was cut by the Mrs Hooper and the two oldest members of the centre, both aged 95, Lilian Ley and Bill Savage, both who live in Saltash and attend the Centre regularly. The centre started four years ago with just 12 people and now has around 80 regular members coming on different days throughout the week. The centre is open four days a week, running a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, knitting, gentle exercises, cards board games and bingo. Members also have trips out, theatre visits, and special events including last year's holidays to Newquay and Weston-super-Mare.
