MORE than 240 competitors, double the number from the 2012 event, will be taking to the roads around Liskeard on Sunday morning (May 5) as part of the first of the 2013 Cornwall Triathlon Series, organised by Carrick Leisure.

Liskeard is a popular choice with novices due to the pool-based swim at Lux Park Leisure Centre, but it also attracts seasoned triathletes looking for a personal best.

Special arrangements are in place to make sure the event, part of a series of 10 triathlons, runs smoothly.

Registration is from 5.30am at Lux Park. The first of three waves of the triathlon starts at 7.30am and competitors will swim, cycle and run.

The swimming pool will be closed to the public in the morning and is due to reopen at 1.30pm for the normal Sunday programme.

Everyone is being encouraged to go along to watch and cheer all the competitors.

The cycling route will be along the Liskeard to Callington road. The competitors will turn off at St Ive onto the Pensilva road and then head back to Liskeard on the B3254.

The running route is a circuit around the north end of Liskeard taking in Culverland, Trevecca and Addington.

There will be no parking at Lux Park or in the adjacent rugby club car park from 5.30pm on Saturday until after the triathlon events, which are expected to finish by 2pm, with parking as normal resuming from 4pm. Official event parking is at Liskeard School and Community College with an overflow facility at Liskeard One Stop Shop at Luxstowe.
