PEOPLE are being encouraged to have their say over plans to extend the Looe conservation area.

If the plans were to go ahead, Hannafore could receive special protection from redevelopment if it receives conservation area status.

'Hannafore has reached a critical point when unsuitable cramming in of new development will ruin its unique look and feel,' said district and town councillor Brian Galipeau.

'Looe as a whole would lose out if we let this happen.

'Conservation area status will give planners strong grounds to refuse unsuitable developments, but at the moment there is nothing to stop anyone putting in an application to build over the bowling green and tennis courts, for instance.'

Looe residents will get the chance to find out more about proposals in a public consultation exercise to be held on Thursday of next week. The Caradon District Council caravan will be in the Buller Quay car park from 10am.

The conservation area extension plans have not been formally considered by the Looe Town Council yet.
