A CLASS in the Cornish language starts next Friday (September 10) at 7.30pm at the Morley Tamblyn Lodge in Lodge HiIl, Liskeard. It is mainly for beginners, although other grades will be catered for. A short time ago Cornish was finally recognised as a language by parliament while the New Testament of the Bible in Cornish was recently launched. Organisers of the class say events such as these have now ended the misconception that Cornish was a dead language. It had in fact survived in West Cornwall into the 19th Century. The language has gradually been brought up to date with a modern vocabulary, with the number of people learning it continuing to rise. In South East Cornwall, in addition to Liskeard, there are also classes in Saltash and Callington.
