Student Becky Smith is embarking on the trip of a lifetime with a difference. Twenty-year-old Becky from Saltash and her co- driver Carl Sheen, 21, both students at Bristol University, will be driving approximately 8,000 miles across Europe and Asia in a one litre H-reg Citroen AX to Mongolia. The two students who are entering the Mongol Rally, which is now in its third year, have already raised £1,000 for charity with the final amount being divided between Send a Cow and the Cambridge Mongolia Disaster Appeal. A total of 190 teams will be taking part and nearly a quarter of a million pounds has been raised for the charities so far. Becky and Carl will start their trip from Hyde Park in London on Saturday and have to reach their first checkpoint in Prague within 24 hours. Having prepared for the journey over the past few months, they will have no help en route, except from other cars taking part in the rally if they happen to be around and from the villages they pass through, many being few and far between. During the trip the teams are only allowed to take four litres of fuel in reserve and Carl has only a basic knowledge of mechanics. The team, named Lost and Hungry, have chosen the northern most route as Becky wants to drive through as many different countries as possible and they are hoping to complete the trek within three to four weeks. Anyone wishing to sponsor Becky and Carl can visit http://www.lostandhungry.co.uk">www.lostandhungry.co.uk which will be updated regularly during their journey.
