Liskeard Town Council will once again hold the ancient custom of ‘Beating The Bounds’ on Sunday, June 5, and all are invited to join in.

It is a tradition to ensure boundary markers are still in place. The markers were beaten with birch or willow, and young boys were often bumped on them to ensure they’d remember where the markers were!

This year’s event will set out from near the B&M Store at 10.30am with Liskeard’s new mayor, Cllr Jane Pascoe, undergoing the traditional ‘Bumping of the Mayor’ at the milestone adjacent to Morrisons roundabout.

The walk will then continue in stages, from Maudlin to Bodgara Mill and onto Hendra Bridge and Craddock Ford. From there the walk will go to Tremabe Bridge and then to Treworgey Manor, where a stop will be made for lunch from 1.15pm-2.30pm. Walkers will then go on to Looe Mills before finishing at around 4.30pm-5pm at the bottom of Lodge Hill. Those interested can join or leave the walk at any stage. Dogs on leads are welcome. All children must be accompanied. Suitable footwear and clothing should be worn as some of the paths are muddy. For the full route and times see the town council’s Visit Liskeard website.
