A scheme to help stop youngsters being bullied in East Cornwall has been launched by police.

In conjunction with the Victim Support Schemes the Caradon and North Cornwall Police Districts have set up a project to help children in addition to the kind of help they are already getting from individual schools and colleges.

The idea originated in Falmouth 18 months ago where it is still running successfully. Now it is being extended to schools in East Cornwall.

The concept is simple, young persons are given a card with the telephone number of their local Victim Support Scheme and can ring them for help and advice.

The eye catching card was designed by students at Falmouth College of Art. Posters with the telephone number will be displayed in ten senior schools.

The help is available to all young people from 11 to 18 years of age, although under fifteens can only be seen with parental consent.

Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Health Authority Promotions Service has sponsored the production of the cards for the first year of operation and Alliance and Leicester are funding the VSS operation.

The VSS volunteers have had training from John Whiting, solicitor, Ted Steele-Tyson Child and Family Service, Anne Robinson, Liskeard School's Deputy Head teacher and the County Youth Service and Falmouth VSS.

The number to call for advice if you are being bullied is 01579 346476.

Victim Support in the Caradon area is in need of volunteers. Call Liskeard Police station for more information.
