A second-hand drum kit has been given a new lease of life after it was donated to Saltash’s Livewire Music Project. Alastair Carnegie, managing director of the Stoke Climsland-based firm Total Energy Solution, said: ‘We take great pride in giving something back to the community, so when we saw the drum kit for sale, we thought it would be a nice gesture to buy it and give it to the Livewire Project, which helps young people through music. ‘This means that more youngsters, who probably wouldn’t normally get access to a drum kit, can now try their hand at playing through the valuable work that the project does. If it helps just one youngster, it will be worth it.’ Livewire project coordinator Andy Rance said: ‘Two years ago our funding was cut, meaning that Livewire now has to beg, steal and borrow to survive, so when companies like Total Energy Solutions very generously give us pieces of equipment like the drum kit, it is awesome, because we do not have the money to buy these things any more. ‘We are extremely grateful.’ This year Livewire will be celebrating 70 years of youth work in the building on Saltash Waterfront which started originally as Saltash Boys Club. Livewire has 1,700 members on its books. Andy is appealing for people to come forward with pictures and memories from the past to help with the celebrations. The project helps local youngsters through difficult periods of their lives, such as those with problems of self-harming, those who suffer from low self-esteem, as well as those with relationship, sexual health and drug and alcohol issues.
