AS these pictures show, volunteers in wet weather gear showed a great deal of love for a local beach on Valentine’s Day.
A group of 20 braved the beginnings of Storm Dennis to collect 186kg of debris that had washed up onto Millendreath Beach.
The event, organised by Looe Marine Conservation Group (LMCG), was one of several ‘Love Your Beach Day’ clean-ups scheduled to take place over the weekend, but many had to be cancelled because of the storm, said Gill Bridges, of LMCG.
Part of the haul at Millendreath included a large piece of ‘ghost’ fishing net. There were also lumps of polystyrene and thousands of tiny fragments of plastic.
‘Thank you to the 20 people who headed out onto the beach, to Millendreath Beach Resort for having us down there, and to Jenn from the Your Shore Beach Rangers project at Cornwall Wildlife Trust for co-ordinating the coming week of cleans across Cornwall,’ said a spokesperson for the group. ‘We were amazed with the number who turned up as it was a working day as well as being Valentine’s Day .’
