Matt Barton's spectacular scoring record continues, with the Torpoint striker scoring twice in this encounter to take him to 21 goals for the season. It took Barton just five minutes to get on the score sheet as the striker picked up the ball just inside the St Dennis half to race clear of a ponderous defence before cracking a 25-yard drive into the net. The goal hungry striker then hit a St Dennis post as Torpoint pushed for a second goal. The second half continued as the first, with Torpoint looking the more likely to score. They were rewarded when a right-wing corner caused confusion in the home defence, leaving Gary Harding to react quickest in the ensuing scramble to score. St Dennis had little punch up front with Neil Trudgeon squandering their best chance to reduce the arrears. Torpoint responded quickly and John Harris held his head in his hands when he saw his shot hit an upright. Barton was still causing havoc and it was he who put the game beyond St Dennis's reach when he took the ball in the penalty area, turned his marker and rammed the ball home.
