TEENAGERS pushing specially-adapted barrows up and down steep roads to help the elderly, and anyone needing a helping hand with their shopping, are soon to become a feature in Liskeard town centre.

The introduction of 'barrow boys and girls' is the latest initiative from the Liskeard Traders Association.

The main areas for the scheme are from Fore Street up Bay Tree Hill and Pike Street to the Parade.

There will be three barrows in operation on Saturdays and during the holiday periods.

The idea was planned at Tuesday night's meeting of the association.

The barrows will be launched on Saturday, July 27, when there is also due to be a fashion show in Fore Street, weather permitting.
