LITTLE things like advancing years and difficulty getting about haven’t deterred a battling fund-raiser.

For many years Barbara Hooper was a familiar figure in and around her home of Upton Cross on national fund-raising occasions.

She could be found in Upton Cross Post Office, outside the school and in the Caradon Inn on events such as Children in Need, invariably dressed up in a garish costume as a clown or Dolly Parton and rattling her collecting bucket.

Now Barbara is living at Pengover House care home in Liskeard. She’s 86, and unable to walk – but she still feels she wants to be raising money.

So she decided to ‘brave the shave’ and have her head shaved in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Her son Brian’s partner Ruth Carthew has set up a Just Giving page to support Barbara, who has already raised £300 through sponsorship.

Ruth said: ‘We think it is amazing Barbara is still continuing to raise funds.’ www.justgiving.com/fund raising/ruth-carthew
