PRESIDENT of Saltash Town Band, Sue Hooper, has praised the band members for their continued dedication to music and congratulated them on their successes over the past year. Mrs Hooper, who is also town mayor, congratulated the long-serving members of the band and treasurer Averil Edgler at the annual meeting at Saltash Community School on Friday. Averil has been band treasurer for 28 years. Chairman Andy Knight welcomed the mayor before observing a silence in memory of former band member, Michele Mansell, of Gunnislake, who died at the age of 13 in a road accident last July. Tina Fulcher, band secretary, said a memorial concert would be held in memory of Michele while a trust fund is being set up for the next ten years in her memory. The band celebrates it's 30th birthday this year and they hope to have a special concert in July to celebrate the event. Mrs Fulcher said that they were hoping to raise some money for new jackets as their present ones are wearing out. To help, Mrs Hooper presented a cheque for £200 to the band from her Mayor's Charity Fund. President Sue Hooper, chairman Andy Knight, secretary Tina Fulcher and treasurer Averil Edgler were all re-elected at the meeting. Committee members are Lucy Hall, Roger Fulcher, Martyn Towson, Pam Huesyin and Jeff Hill.
