FOLLOWING the fire at Callington Heritage Centre, Callington Town Band has found a new home. The group used to practice and store their instruments at the centre's bandroom and had a lot of their music, as well as their drum kit, damaged in the blaze. Until their room is available again, they will hold their rehearsals at the WI Hall in Kelly Bray. Meanwhile, fundraising has begun to buy replacement music. The group has recently received two grants - one from Co-operative Society for £500 and another of £150 from the Healthy Living Promotion in Cornwall - which will now go towards the fund. Money from their forthcoming performances and monthly car boot sales held on the second Saturday of each month will also be for the fund. Musically the band is as busy as ever with it's own Spring Concert taking place on place on April 21. The group then plays at the Harrowbarrow and Metherell May Day celebrations on May 7, quickly followed by performances at the Launceston Steam Rally in May, the Saltash Regatta and Albaston Fete in June and an Open Air Service at Coads Green in July. The South East Cornwall National Trust has asked the Band to perform a concert for them in October and, in December, the Saltash Blind and Partially Sighted Club (BAPS), has invited them to play in a fund-raising event.
