CORNWALL ONE
St Austell 10 Liskeard-Looe 16
IN the ongoing duel between St Austell and Liskeard-Looe at the top of Cornwall One, Liskeard now lead 2-1 following this return League clash at Tregorrick Parc last weekend.
The Saints won at Lux Park before the clubs met in the EDF Junior Vase, when Liskeard-Looe took the honours.
It was ding-dong all the way in this game, with the visitors leading 13-3 at the interval.
Centre Baz Hocking kicked an early penalty, which was nullified by home fly-half Paul Newnham soon after with a goal – and then at the start of the second quarter Hocking broke through and was stopped short, but offloaded to Ryan Morris who crossed.
After Saints' prop Hugh Noott had been sin-binned, Liskeard scored again from a catch-and-drive, No.8 Ali Hill touching down.
St Austell made a tactical error at the start of the second period, electing to kick three penalties to the corner instead of going for goal and losing all three line-outs.
The visitors increased their advantage to 16-3 with a penalty from Morris, but the Saints came back ten minutes from time with a good try from Noott, with Newnham adding the extras.
