A COUPLE who, between the two of them, have notched up 80 years of commitment to the Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal have been presented with long- service awards by the charity.

June and John Trevithick, of Callington, received, respectively, their 45-year and 35-year medals at a presentation evening held in the town.

While June was a standard bearer for almost 40 years, John has given many years' service as a collector, said branch secretary Hazel Jones.

Several other members were presented with medals for completing 15 years' service or more at the same event.

It was also an appropriate occasion to celebrate an outstanding year for the Poppy Appeal in Callington: a total of £11,500 has been donated in the last 12 months – a total which is £1,000 more than last year.

Mrs Jones said: 'Our thanks are given to the town and district for their generosity.'
